Farmers attack SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal's rally, thrown stones

Amritsar: A scuffle broke out between some farmers' organizations and police who arrived in Moga district of Punjab on Thursday (September 2, 2021) to protest against Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal. After which the police resorted to water cannon and lathi-charge. Several farmers and policemen were injured in the incident.

According to the report, Sukhbir Badal is on a 100-day visit to Punjab in view of the assembly elections. In the same vein, he had reached Moga district on Thursday. His public meeting was going on at the New Grain Mandi in Dharmakot here. Meanwhile, at around 12 noon, some farmers reached there and started protesting against them. All of them were demanding withdrawal of Central Agricultural Laws. The SAD has declared Brijendra Singh Makhan Barad, son of former Moga minister Jathedar Tota Singh, as its candidate.

The police tried to stop the farmers and remove them from there, which angered them. The farmers started pelting stones after which clashes broke out between the police and the farmers. 24 farmers and 6 policemen were injured. The injured include DSP (Security Branch) Gurudeep Singh and 2 inspectors. With this, the head of a home guard jawan, and a media person has been ripped off. Moreover, more than a dozen vehicles were damaged in clashes with farmers.
