Farmers to gather at UP Gate today to celebrate anniversary of Kisan Kranti Padyatra

Meerut: There have been many big farmer agitations all over the country last year. Due to which the government had to face tremendous pressure. The opposition was helped by these movements to create an anti-government atmosphere. To commemorate the anniversary of the Kisan Kranti Padyatra held last year, farmers of many states will leave for UP Gate at Lali-Ghaziabad Border on Wednesday. The Meerut branch of Bhakiyu says that hundreds of farmers from the district will also reach the UP gate and plan a strategy for the forthcoming movement.

Bhakiyu started the Kisan Kranti Padyatra from Haridwar to Delhi Kisan Ghat in September last year with the demands of farmers. The yatra was supposed to enter Delhi on 2 October, lasting 10 days. Farmers from many states reached UP Gate on October 1. On the orders of the central government, the Delhi Police stopped the farmers at the UP gate itself. The farmers had broken barricading and created uproar.

The police fired tear gas shells at the farmers with water splashes. Many farmers were also injured. RLD chief Chaudhary Ajit Singh, who came to support the farmers, had fainted. Rakesh Tikait, national spokesperson of BKU, national general secretary Yudhveer Singh met former Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. However, the farmers stopped their agitation after getting assurances from the government.
