The farmers' protest gains momentum as a 'Chalo Delhi' march kicks off from Fatehgarh Sahib in Punjab. Originating mainly from Punjab, farmers, along with counterparts from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, have embarked on this march following inconclusive discussions with the Union government. Ahead of the march, farmer representatives from these states engaged in a five-hour-long discussion with central ministers Piyush Goyal and Arjun Munda in a last-ditch effort by the government to avert the impending gridlock in Delhi NCR on Tuesday.

Union Agriculture Minister Munda indicated progress on most issues concerning the farmers following the meeting. However, the farmers remain resolute in their decision to proceed with the march, prompting the closure of several state borders surrounding Delhi.

Tuesday's march will be spearheaded by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, aiming to exert pressure on the Centre to accede to their demands. Their primary demand remains the enactment of legislation to ensure a minimum support price (MSP) for crops.

The demand for a legal guarantee of MSP stands at the forefront of the farmers' agitation. Additionally, they seek the implementation of recommendations outlined in the Swaminathan Commission report, along with the waiver of farm debts.
