Subhash Batham, the mastermind of this hostage crisis that lasted for nearly 11 hours, was killed by the police at around 1 am, while his wife was beaten to death by angry villagers.

In Karthia village of Farrukhabad, the 21-year-old head of Subhash had taken hostage in the afternoon on the pretext of celebrating a birthday. When people arrived here, Subhash fired at them. The villagers immediately called Dial 112 and reported the matter. Police sent a friend of Subhash to talk to him. Subhash also shot at his friend. The police found the situation uncontrollable, after which Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath called an emergency meeting around 9 pm seeking the help of ATS. It also included the Chief Secretary, DGP, ADG Law and Order and Principal Secretary of Home Department. Officers were instructed that the children be rescued safely.
