New FASTag Rules: What You Need to Know About KYC Updates and Replacements - Starting August 1, new regulations require updates and replacements for FASTags that are five years old or older. These changes aim to enhance toll payment efficiency and reduce congestion at toll booths. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced updated guidelines that include mandatory KYC (Know Your Customer) requirements for FASTags.

Key Updates on FASTag Rules:

  • Replacement of Old FASTags: FASTags that are over five years old need to be replaced.
  • KYC Update for Older FASTags: FASTags issued three years ago require KYC updates.
  • Linking Vehicle Information: Your vehicle's registration number and chassis number must be linked with the FASTag.
  • New Vehicle Registration: Update the FASTag with your new vehicle's registration number within 90 days of purchase.
  • Database Verification: FASTag providers are required to verify their databases regularly.
  • Photo Upload Requirement: Clear photos of the front and side of your vehicle must be uploaded.
  • Mobile Number Linking: Your FASTag must be linked to a mobile number for easier management.
  • To comply with NPCI mandates, companies must update KYC for FASTags between three to five years old and replace those older than five years.

Convenient FASTag Recharge Through Paytm

In addition to the new FASTag rules, Paytm has introduced a convenient feature on its app for FASTag recharges. Users can now top up their FASTags directly through the Paytm platform, streamlining the process and reducing the need to queue at toll plazas. This update comes despite recent regulatory restrictions imposed on Paytm Payments Bank Limited (PPBL) by the Reserve Bank of India.

Despite these regulatory challenges, Paytm ensures that all other services, including UPI transactions, QR code payments, Soundbox, and Card Machine payments, continue to operate smoothly.
