New Delhi: The country has received good monsoon rains this year. Due to this, there is enough moisture in the soil. Due to which the sowing of Rabi season crops can start earlier, the area is also expected to increase. In view of this, the demand for fertilizer is expected to be high during the Rabi season. The fertilizer industry has prepared to increase the supply of fertilizers only by anticipating the needs of farming for the coming season. Last week, there was a long discussion on the preparations for the Rabi season in a meeting convened by the State Agriculture Ministers and Secretaries in the capital Delhi last week.

Their needs regarding the cultivation of rabi crops were sought from all the states. However, in the Rabi season preparation meeting, the demand for Dye-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertilizer has been estimated to be 51.6 lakh tonnes. This demand for DAP was 4.6 million tonnes in the same season last year. Fertilizer companies have stocked more than 5 million tonnes of NPK mixed fertilizer, which is about 17 percent more than the demand for last year's rabi season.

Meaning, farmers will not have to face any shortage of fertilizer this time. Fertilizer companies have sufficient stocks of fertilizer in view of the monsoon season rains from July to late September. In the Rabi Preparation Meeting, Minister of State for Agriculture, Parsotham Rupala, had instructed the states to make the Rabi season preparations strong by mentioning the shortage of urea from several states during the Kharif season.
