New Delhi: World football governing body FIFA on August 16 suspended India for "undue influence from third parties"and said the U-17 Women's World Cup "cannot currently be held in India as planned."
From October 11 to 30, the nation will host its first FIFA tournament.
In its 85-year history, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has never been prohibited by FIFA. The All India Football Federation (AIFF) will be suspended with immediate effect, the FIFA said in a statement, "due to excessive influence from third parties, which constitutes a major violation of the FIFA Statutes."
"The suspension will be removed after an order to set up a committee of administrators to assume the authority of the AIFF Executive Committee has been revoked and the AIFF administration has fully regained control of the AIFF's daily operations," the statement reads.
The FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup 2022, which was slated to take place in India from October 11–30, 2022, cannot currently be hosted in India as scheduled due to the ban. FIFA is determining the tournament's future steps and, if and when necessary, will bring the issue to the Bureau of the Council.
After Praful Patel's removal as president of the AIFF by the Supreme Court on May 18 for failing to convene elections that were due in December 2020, a ban on India seemed imminent.
A three-member Committee of Administrators (CoA), led by former judge AR Dave of the Supreme Court, had been appointed by the court to oversee the business of the national federation.
