Moscow [Russia], June 27 (NT): A late goal from Marcos Rojo taking the two-time champions Argentina into the round of 16 of the ongoing 21st edition of the FIFA World Cup on Tuesday.

Star footballer Lionel Messi side marked 2-1 win over Nigeria in their final Group D match.

 Nigeria were making a route to enter the last 16 at Argentina's expense with four minutes left in the match, but Rojo's thrilling low volley saved Jorge Sampaoli's side and got them through to the knockout stages of FIFA 2018.

On the edge of removal after playing a 1-1 draw against Iceland and facing an embarrassing 0-3 defeat to Croatia in their second match, Argentina kicked off their final group stage encounter Nigeria with one point in their kitty.

Following a frightened beginning, Argentina took a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute as Messi played a stunning shot.

Worth mention here this was Messi’s 100th goal of the tournament on whole.

 But in the 51st minute Victor Moses' penalty soon gave an equalizer to Nigeria.Nigeria were awarded a penalty after old hand Argentine midfielder Mascherano was punished for holding Balogun inside the box while defending a corner.

When the game was moving towards 1-1 draw, both teams put each and every effort with testing every possible move to take a lead in the second half.

While both teams failed on several close attempts, Rojo became the sudden and tremendous hero for Argentina side.
