New Delhi: The Supreme Court, the country's largest court, has asked all states and union territories to register FIRs on hate speeches. Extending the scope of its 2022 order, the court said that in this case FIR will have to be registered even without any complaint. Along with this, the Supreme Court has warned that if there is a delay in registering the case in this matter, it will be considered as contempt of court.

Taking a tough stand on hate speeches, the apex court has directed action to be taken irrespective of religion. Let us tell you that earlier the apex court had given this order only to the Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Uttarakhand governments, but now this order of the Supreme Court has been given for all the states.

In an earlier hearing in the hate speech case, the apex court had said, "There is a growing consensus on hate speech and there is no place for hate crime on the basis of religion in a secular country like India." The court said, "There can be no compromise on hate speech." The Supreme Court said that if the state accepts the problem of hate speech, then only a solution can be found. At the same time, the court also said that it is the primary duty of the state to protect its citizens from any such hate crime.
