New Delhi: Before the General Budget, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman held a review meeting with bank heads on Saturday. Many big decisions related to the banking sector were taken in this meeting. During this, Nirmala Sitharaman launched the online e-auction platform eBkray. After the loan is not repaid on this platform, the property seized by public sector banks will be auctioned.

On this new platform, the option of linking property search and banks' e-auction sites has been provided. Information on all the properties to be auctioned is available on this platform. Apart from this, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman directed the banks to dispose of the vigilance cases filed against their officials regarding corruption as soon as possible. Sitharaman also said that from January 1, merchant discount rate (MDR) charges will not be levied on select methods of payment.

Nirmala Sitharaman, in her first budget speech presented in July, proposed removal of MDR fee to promote digital payments in the country. She said, 'Therefore I propose that business establishments with an annual turnover of more than Rs 50 crore will offer such low-cost digital payment methods to their customers. While doing this, no merchant discount rate or any other charges will be levied on customers and businessmen.'
