New Delhi: The central government is continuously looking to deal with the economic slowdown in the country. The Finance Minister held a number of press conferences in the past in which major economic steps were announced. Along with this, the government is also meeting with various business organizations and industry people. In this episode, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman held a meeting with the heads of Public Undertakings (PSUs) to review the programs of capital expenditure.

After the meeting, the Finance Minister on Saturday directed all the undertakings to settle all the dues of contractors and suppliers by 15 October. For this, a campaign will be conducted in the first week of October. She has also asked government companies to start a new portal for payment related matters. So, service providers can track bill and payment-related information.

34 PSUs have spent Rs 48,077 crore till August, while Rs 50,159 crore is to be spent by December 2019, besides a target of spending Rs 54,700 crore in the fourth quarter. Secretaries of NHAI, CIL, Indian Oil, ONGC, HAL, NHPC, Power Grid, NTPC, GAIL, Hindustan Petroleum and MSME were present in this meeting. In fact, MSME's complaint is that they do not get the payment on time. Which poses an economic challenge to them.
