New Delhi: Thousands of farmers have been agitating in and around the country's capital, Delhi, for nearly a month in protest against the three new reforms in the agriculture sector. Most of these agitating farmers are from neighbouring states of Punjab and Haryana, who are adamant on their insistence on repealing the three agricultural laws.

The Modi government is also targeting these laws from opposition parties, including the Congress. Meanwhile, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has questioned Rahul Gandhi over opposition from the Congress over the laws. Nirmala said, "I would like to ask Rahul Gandhi whether these policies were not included by the Congress in the 2019 election manifesto in the benefit of the farmer. They are agitating because these reforms have been implemented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and not on his behalf."

Sitharaman further said, "PM Modi has addressed the farmers and made it clear that the government is ready to negotiate with those who have doubts about the three new agricultural laws in mind. I hope that the government will now be negotiated with the agitating farmers."
