According to the information received, the Ministry of Railways has about 15.5 lakh retired employees. Every month the Railways spends money to give pension to these employees. Apart from this, the monthly salary of 12.5 lakh employees working in the railways has to be borne separately. According to this, the total expenditure of the railways is almost equal to its total earnings.
