Manoj Pandey, a former minister and member of the Samajwadi Party, was arrested on September 5 for allegedly using derogatory language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the police said.

After a video of Mr. Pandey's remarks went viral on social media, a guy called Dilip Kumar, a resident of the Shivgarh police station area of the district, filed a complaint at the Unchahar Police Station.

The complaint has been filed under different sections of the Indian Penal Code, according to Superintendent of Police Shlok Kumar. The complaint alleged that the Unchahar MLA "abused" the prime minister and other dignitaries holding constitutional posts during a public event in a village in the district.
