Italy reported the first case of the South African strain of corona. According to tothe city health service, the case is reported in the city of Varese (Lombardy region). Infection with the strain was found in a man who recently arrived at Milan Malpensa Airport from Africa.

According to the service, Currently, the Varese Hospital is evaluating the first case of the South African variant of SARS-CoV-2 observed in Italy. The biological material will soon be sent for verification to the Italian National Institute of Health.

Meanwhile, Scientists have warned that the COVID-19 variant, which has been spreading around the United Kingdom has undergone further genetic changes. The country has been struggling with the recently mutates, more virulent variant of SARS-CoV-2 virus since December 2020. Moreover, the scientists from Public Health England have also detected a small number of cases of the UK 'Kent' variant with the E484K mutation. It was detected in 11 out of 214,159 tested samples from the South West of England.
