Guwahati: The first death due to a corona virus infection was recorded on Friday. The total number of people infected with this virus in the state has increased to 28. State Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted that a patient resident of Hailakandi district died in Silchar Medical College Hospital in the early hours of Friday.

The 65-year-old employee, retired from BSF, had worsened on Thursday and was admitted to SMCH hospital. The minister said that his other health standards were stable, but there was a lack of oxygen in the blood and he was admitted to the ICU for better monitoring. The man was confirmed to be Corona virus positive on Tuesday night and was involved in the Tablighi Jamaat program in Nizamuddin, New Delhi. Earlier this person also went to Saudi Arabia. Sarma has expressed his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased.
