The Peru Ministry of Health has reported the country's first fatal case of "flurona" (flu and Covid-19 infection at the same time), which included an 87-year-old patient with comorbidities who was not resistant to the coronavirus. The death was one of three flurona cases discovered in northern Peru's Amazonas area, according to Cesar Munayco, a researcher at the ministry's National Center for Epidemiology, Prevention, and Control of Diseases.

Munayco said the other two cases included a minor and a 40-year-old who had been completely vaccinated against Covid-19. Cough, sore throat, and general malaise were among the symptoms experienced by those affected, according to Munayco, who urged the public to get vaccinated against COVID-19 and influenza since it "reduces the risk of dying."

"It's important to realize this since we're presently dealing with a major H3N2 influenza outbreak in the country's jungle, including (the areas of) Loreto, San Martin, Amazonas, and Ucayali," Munayco warned. On Tuesday, Peru announced the third wave of Covid-19 infections, which was accelerated by the advent of the Omicron form in December, which has already resulted in 309 confirmed cases in the South American country.
