Oh SINGH unto the Lords! - Well-known Sikh entrepreneur and travel and parenting influencer, known far and wide as the ‘Sikh Supermom’, Harkirat Kaur Kukreja and her family were hosted by Lord Singh of Wimbledon, Dr. Indarjit Singh OBE CBE, the first turbaned Sikh Peer in the House of Lords. Lord Singh’s wife, Lady Kanwaljit Kaur-Singh, a renowned British educator & writer and President of the Global Sikh Council also welcomed Harkirat Kaur Kukreja and her family to the UK’s House of Lords.
At the House of Lords, Harkirat Kaur Kukreja was accompanied by her husband, Harjinder Singh Kukreja, a celebrated and influential Sikh restaurateur and their children, Rehras Singh Kukreja, Aad Sach Singh Kukreja and Rut Suhavi Kaur Kukreja.
The Kukreja family presented a miniature bust of Maharaja Ranjit Singh to Lord Singh and Lady Singh. Seeking inspiration from the life and times of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, they contemplated and shared the need of looking beyond one’s self-interests, to what Sikhs call ‘Sarbat Ka Bhala’, a single-minded resolve to secure the well-being of all.
“It was an honor to be hosted by Lord Indarjit Singh, the Baron Singh of Wimbledon CBE who is a British journalist and broadcaster, a prominent Sikh Briton, an acclaimed interfaith activist and the first Sikh in the House of Lords. Apart from being the editor of the Sikh Messenger, Lord Singh is known for introducing and promoting Sikh spirituality in British society as a presenter of the Thought for the Day segment on BBC”, says Harkirat Kaur Kukreja.
“From the portals of the House of Lords, I deeply appreciate this unique privilege bestowed upon our family. In the short time that we spent with Lord Indarjit and Lady Singh, I was captivated by their personas and pleasant attitude, cordial nature and typical English hospitality,” says Harjinder Singh Kukreja who accompanied his wife, Harkirat Kaur Kukreja to the House of Lords.
Lord Indarjit Singh acknowledged the Kukreja family for their world travels and subtle yet interesting mannerisms in which they promote Sikh family life. In particular he congratulated Harkirat Kaur Kukreja for being a wonderful mother and said that the mother holds the key to where and what future generations will accomplish.
“Both my husband and I have admired the amazing and long married life of this power couple, Lord Indarjit and Lady Singh and the secret to its success. We are extremely delighted to have spent time with them and will cherish these moments and their blessings for all our lives”, says Harkirat Kaur Kukreja.
