New Delhi: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has stated that he will issue an order in the next two to three days mandating the use of flex-fuel engines in automobiles.

Gadkari said that India imports petroleum goods worth Rs 8 lakh crore per year and that if the country continues to rely on fossil fuels, the country's import bill will climb to Rs 25 lakh in the next five years. "I am going to sign a file in the next 2-3 days to order carmakers to create flex-fuel engines vehicles (that can run on more than one fuel) to minimise fossil fuel imports," the road transport and roads minister stated. Gadkari also stated that the day when vehicles will operate on green hydrogen is not far away.

Flex-fuel, often known as flexible fuel, is a hybrid fuel that combines gasoline with methanol or ethanol. Top officials from Toyota Motor Corporation, Suzuki, and Hyundai Motor India have assured Gadkari that flex engines will be introduced in their vehicles. He also stated that India is the world's fastest-growing economy. Politics, according to Gadkari, is a tool for socio-economic reform.
