SRINAGAR: Since the river, Jhelum flowed over the danger mark Dy Commissioner Srinagar issued guidelines and urged people in low-lying areas to be extremely alert in J&K.

Flood has been declared. We've requested people in low-lying areas to be extremely alert and vigilant but a call for evacuation has not been made yet. There is no need to panic. We've identified a dozen relief camps. 17 SDRF teams have been deployed: Dy Commissioner Srinagar, J&K warned.

Earlier Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah today trained a gun at Mehbooba Mufti-led government in the midst of intimidation of a flood-like situation in the state.

Omar raised questions over the consideration of the government in the state.

"What was the PDP-BJP government doing after the devastating floods of 2014? What happened to the dredging of the Jehlum? Why was the carrying capacity of the flood channel not increased? Where did the money go," Omar asked on Twitter on Saturday?

It is noted that heavy rains in Kashmir forced the authorities to crash a flood alert in central Kashmir on Saturday and asked the people to be alert and prepared for mass departure. Water levels started receding in the southern parts of the valley. The authorities had on Friday directed notices that a flood alert in south Kashmir. Having to the flood warning in the state, Governor NN Vohra held an emergency meeting at Raj Bhawan on Saturday.

 All the schools from corner to corner of the valley have been closed down for a day in view of the stormy weather.

The water level at Sangam at 10 am this morning was 23.06 feet which is above the critical mark.
