Flood wreaks havoc in Kerala, red alert issued in these districts

Kochi: According to the apprehension, heavy rains continued in many parts of Kerala even on Sunday. Due to this, flood situation has been created in the lower areas of the state. During this period, the number of people who died in the incident has increased to 43 with the death of 17 more people in the Idukki landslide. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains in Kasargod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram and Alappuzha districts. IMD has issued a red alert and within 24 hours, 20 centimeters of rain has been estimated in these districts. However, it is expected that by Tuesday, the speed of rain will be reduced.

Campaigns are constantly on to evacuate those trapped in landslides in Pettimudi, around Rajamala. The bodies of 17 more people have been recovered on Sunday. However, the special thing is that despite heavy rains, the NDRF and Fire Department continued relief and rescue work. Due to heavy rains and opening of separate dams, the water level of the rivers of central Kerala has increased, due to which the flood situation has become more serious. A taxi driver was swept away in the flood in Manarkad area of Kottayam district. The body of the driver has been recovered.

The situation is getting worse in other states of India. 87 thousand more people have been affected by the floods in Bihar, with which the figure of flood affected people has reached about 74 lakhs. There is a flood effect in 1232 panchayat areas of 125 blocks of 16 districts of the state. So far 5.08 lakh people have been rescued from flood affected areas. According to the Meteorological Department, due to low pressure area in most places of Odisha, heavy rains can occur for the next 5 days. The state government has issued an alert to the district administration.
