New Delhi: A big meeting of the GST Council is going to be held on the last day of the year under the chairmanship of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Earlier this meeting was proposed in January. People are expected to get relief from this meeting. In the last meeting of the GST Council, it was decided to increase the tax on readymade clothes and shoes by less than 1000 rupees. The textile industry is expected to withdraw this decision in this meeting.

Along with this, the number of industry and trade organizations are expected to reduce the number of slabs (GST slabs) from four to three. Just before the meeting, the opposition parties have also demanded the central government to withdraw the decision of the previous meeting to increase the GST rates. Former Finance Minister of West Bengal Amit Mitra has demanded the withdrawal of the decision to increase the tax on clothes and shoes from 5 per cent to 12 per cent. Telangana Industries Minister KT Rama Rao has also appealed to the government to reconsider this decision. The decision to increase some sewing threads from five percent to 12 percent, including clothes and shoes of less than one thousand, has been opposed across the country.

A day earlier on December 30, textile traders have gone on strike in almost every city including Delhi and Surat. There is a lot of displeasure among businessmen due to the increase in tax on clothes and shoes. CAIT's National General Secretary Praveen Khandelwal said that he hopes to withdraw the increased tax. Devraj Bajwa of the Delhi Trade Association said that this meeting is being held ahead of time. Due to this, the hope of withdrawing the decision to increase the tax has increased even more. If this happens then it will be a big relief for the general public.
