NEW DELHi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is scheduled to meet the heads of public sector banks (PSBs) today (June 20) to review the performance of the lenders and the progress made by them on various schemes launched by the government for the revival of the economy.

Banks would be urged to grant loans for productive industries to help the economy recover from headwinds such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict, according to sources.

Banks performed outreach activities across the country during the finance ministry's Iconic Week celebrations, where eligible customers were sanctioned loans on the spot.

According to reports, the Finance Minister will assess loan growth, asset quality, and bank business growth plans, as well as non-performing assets (NPAs) of Rs 100 crore and their recovery progress. They said that a thorough examination of all areas and developments in government programmes such as the Kisan Credit Card and the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) would be conducted.
