Mumbai: The Anti-Terrorist Squad has made a big disclosure after 10 people were arrested from Maharashtra on suspicion of links with the Islamic State in early 2019. The ATS investigation revealed that the suspected Talha Potri, who was involved in the group, had hatched a conspiracy to poison the Mahaprasad of the famous Mumbareshwar temple in Maharashtra.

The plot was attempted to be carried out during the Srimad Bhagwat Katha that took place in the temple premises in December, but the terror did not succeed. The ATS also claimed that the arrested suspects were influenced by the ideology of Islamic preacher Zakir Naik.

The charge sheet filed by the ATS on Monday said that the suspects had conspired to poison the Mahaprasad of the 400-year-old Mumbaibeshwar temple. On the day the plot was to be carried out, the temple's Mahaprasad was eaten by more than 40,000 people. The plan was to kill a large number of devotees by adding poison to the Mahaprasad. The ATS has filed a charge sheet in the case and identified all the suspects, including 9 adults and 1 minor.

The ATS chargesheet also said that all these people were influenced by the ideology of controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik. Zakir Naik is the same person on whom the NIA has registered a number of cases for indulging in terrorist activities in India. According to the ATS, pictures and videos of Zakir Naik have been found from the social media accounts of all the suspects.
