Jakarta: Following a missile attack on a hospital run by the Indonesian government in Gaza that caused damage, activists in Indonesia called for action against Israel on Tuesday.

The Indonesia Hospital was built in 2015 with funding from the Indonesian NGO Medical Emergency Rescue Committee, or MER-C, and is situated in northern Gaza just outside the region's largest refugee camp, Jabalia.

Following days of air raids in Gaza that also damaged other medical facilities, including Al-Aqsa Hospital, the facility was damaged by Israeli airstrikes on Saturday, according to a statement from MER-C.

"World leaders and the international community are urged to stop Zionists by the Aqsa Working Group. AWG executive committee member Muhammad Anshorullah stated, "To boycott and retaliate against Israel.

The hospital represented the friendship between Palestine and Indonesia, he continued, adding that AWG "strongly condemns the attacks that damaged the Indonesia Hospital."

For many years, Indonesia has been a steadfast supporter of the Palestinian cause. The majority-Muslim nation in the world believes that the establishment of a Palestinian state is required by its own constitution, which calls for the abolition of colonialism.

The government of the country in Southeast Asia has repeatedly demanded an end to Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories as well as a two-state solution based on pre-1967 borders. Israel and Indonesia do not have diplomatic relations.

The UN in particular, "AWG urges world leaders to make concrete efforts to return the land of Palestine to the nation of Palestine," according to Anshorullah.

Between Tuesday of last week and Saturday, at least 33 Palestinians—including children—were killed in Gaza during the fiercest attacks in months.

Israeli airstrikes on Tuesday left widespread damage, which the MER-C was still evaluating. Several images posted online over the weekend showed the Indonesia Hospital's busted ceilings.

"We are paying close attention to the damage that Israeli bombing in Gaza, Palestine has done to the Indonesia Hospital. According to Sarbini Abdul Murad, the executive committee of MER-C's chairman, "We are attempting to repair the damages."

"Indonesia Hospital is a gift from the Indonesian people to the Gaza Strip's Palestinian residents. "Indonesians are deeply hurt by the damage," said Murad.

"We denounce Israeli attacks on health facilities that are protected by international law and on Gazan civilians. We request that the international community, the UN, and the OIC (Organisation of Islamic Cooperation) put an end to Israel's heinous crimes.
