"Vinayaka Chaturthi has been banned on the instructions of the central government," said CPI(M) leader CH Narasimha Rao. The central government has imposed restrictions across the country on Vinayaka Chaturthi. He was upset that BJP leaders in Andhra Pradesh were doing religious politics in the name of Vinayaka Chaturthi. The CPI(M) leader said that if the cases of corona increase, will the BJP leaders be held accountable.

The central government has said that the threat of corona third wave is imminent, as well as restrictions are being imposed in BJP-ruled states. He said that BJP leaders in the state are acting as if religious politics is important for us. Meanwhile, State Endowments Minister Vellampalli Srinivas has urged BJP leaders to stay away from religious politics. He said the decision on Vinayaka Chaturthi celebrations was taken with the Centre's direction.

On the other hand, Andhra Pradesh BJP cadre has staged protests in many parts of the state, demanding permission for Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in mandals. Party leaders and workers staged protests at the district collectorate and other government offices. Efforts were made to surround the Collectorate and Sub-Collector at Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Machilipatnam, Guntur, Ongole and Cuddapah.
