New Delhi: Now living and eating in IITs, which are recognized as the best technical educational institutions in the country, will be expensive. In fact, the central government has decided to privatize the work of building IIT hostels, their maintenance and food arrangements. This move of the government can make it expensive for students to stay and eat in IITs. According to a senior officer, a new fee will be charged on the basis of AC, single room, food etc. in the hostel. That is, if a student wants to stay in the AC room and wants to eat according to his wish, then he will have to pay separately for this.

Significantly, the government wants the work of IITs to be focused only on studies, research, etc. and the work of hostel maintenance, construction of food and construction of new hostels should be handed over to private hands. However, this step may cost students more than before. The new scheme will affect the students of general category, while the students of the reserved class and economically backward class will pay the hostel fees like other students, but the government will pay this money through the stipend received by them. Till now, students from families with an annual income of five lakh rupees are kept in EWS in IITs. The Central Government has approved the proposal to implement this decision in all 23 IITs. Every year lakhs of children sit for admission in these IITs.
