Taliban Supreme Leader Haibatullah Akhundzada has made his first public appearance. Akhundzada addressed reporters in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar. The officials reported it on Sunday. Akhundzada has been the spiritual head of the Taliban's Islamic movement since 2016 and has been missing from the eyes of individuals. Even when the Taliban captured Afghanistan in August, he did not come forward.

The same Haibatullah Akhundzada has been low profile so far. This has raised questions about his character in the Taliban government. Even rumours of Akhundzada's death surfaced. According to Taliban officials, Akhundzada Darul Uloom arrived at the Hakima Madarsa on Saturday to "talk to his brave soldiers and disciples." There was tight security at the function and no photos or videos surfaced. But a ten-minute audio recording was shared by the Taliban's social media account.

Akhundzada is called the Commander of the Amirul Mominin or the Faithful. The audio heard the Taliban's Supreme Leader delivering a religious message. The message did not discuss the issue. Prayers were sought from the top for the leadership of the Mafra Taliban. He wished the Taliban 'martyrs' and injured fighters. At the same time, prayers were offered for the success of Islamic emirate officials in this major test. Akhundzada was soon appointed leader of the Taliban, as his former Taliban chief Mullah Akhtar Mansoor died in a US drone strike in 2016.
