Mumbai, India - In a dramatic shift of fortunes, Mukesh Ambani, the Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries, has ascended to the coveted number one position on Forbes India's 100 Richest list for the year 2023. Ambani, a stalwart of the Indian business landscape, has reclaimed his throne as the wealthiest individual in India with a staggering net worth of USD 92 billion.

Gautam Adani, the Chairman of the Adani Group, who held the title of India's richest person in 2022 according to Forbes, has slipped to the second position this year. This unexpected turn of events can be attributed to a substantial decline in the group's shares, which was triggered by a report from the US-based short seller Hindenburg Research. The report's release in January-February 2023 led to a substantial drop in the valuation of Adani's conglomerate, ultimately resulting in his descent from the top spot.

Reshuffling of India's Wealth Elite

While the spotlight remains firmly fixed on the top two positions, there have been several notable changes and repositions within the Forbes India's 100 Richest list for 2023.

Shiv Nadar, the esteemed Founder and Chairman Emeritus of HCL Technologies, has secured the third position. This remarkable ascent is primarily due to a staggering 42% increase in the share value of HCL Technologies over the past year, propelling him back into the top tier of India's wealthiest individuals.

Savitri Jindal, the former Chairperson of the OP Jindal Group, has taken the fourth spot on the list with a formidable fortune of USD 24 billion. Her steady presence among India's richest reflects the enduring strength of her family's business legacy.
