Chennai: BJP founder Ramdas has said that the board should stop the closure of the Ford car plant. This decision is unfortunate as it will result in loss of jobs of thousands of employees. It should be taken back. US-headquartered Ford Motor Company has opened and operates car plants in Chennai, India and Sanand, Ahmedabad, Gujarat. It has announced the closure of these plants, claiming a loss of around Rs 15 trillion in the last 10 years. In this regard, a statement issued by BJP founder Ramdas said. The company has announced that it has decided to shut down its Ford car plants in Chennai, Maraimalai Nagar and Gujarat.

The Gujarat plant is scheduled to close by the end of this year and the Chennai plant next year. If these factories shut down, 8,000 workers will lose their jobs directly and 30,000 indirectly. It will be a huge loss not only to their livelihood but also to Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Indian economy. Ford said it had explored various possibilities for continuing to operate both car factories and decided to close the plant as it was certain they were not feasible. It would not be appropriate to discuss or criticize Ford's decision at this time.

But it is an indisputable fact that more than 38,000 workers will be affected by this decision and most of them will be from Tamil Nadu. Therefore, the Tamil Nadu-Gujarat state governments and the central government should explore all possibilities, including ensuring that both the plants continue to operate to protect the livelihood of the employees.
