New Delhi: Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has assured early release of Indians stranded in Iran. The External Affairs Minister said on Twitter on Saturday that he was focusing on the immediate release of 18 Indian crew members trapped in the ship named Stana Impero. Officials of the Indian Embassy in Tehran have met these Indians. They are in good health and they have all the essential commodities. We are in constant touch with the Iranian administration to resolve this issue.

Iran captured British oil tanker Stana Impero in the Strait of Hormuz on July 18. Of the 23 crew members on board, 18 are Indians. Among these 18 Indians, Govind Naik is a Goa engineer. Iran has ignored Britain's appeal to release the oil tanker. Iran's military released a video of the capture of oil tanker 'Stana Impero'.

The video showed Iranian Revolutionary Guards surrounded and captured an oil tanker in the Hormuz Strait. The External Affairs Minister's tweet comes at a time when Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K. Palaniswamy told the Centre and the External Affairs Ministry that apart from 18 other Indian crew members, Aditya Vasudevan (27) of Chennai was also present in the British ship. Vasudevan's father has appealed to the Tamil Nadu government for his immediate release.
