New Delhi: After all changes on the order of the apex court, the final list of National Register of Citizens (NRC) has been released by the Ministry of Home Affairs. In the midst of all this, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ravish Kumar on Sunday said that some media institutions spread misleading news about the final list of NRC. According to news agency ANI, Ravish Kumar said that some misleading things are being said by foreign media about the final list of NRC, which is not correct.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Ravish Kumar said that the Government of India had signed the Assam Accord in 1985. The agreement promises to take care of the interests of the citizens of Assam. He said that the objective of NRC is to effectively implement the Assam Accord between the Central Government, State Government, All Assam Students Union (AASU) and All Assam Gana Sangram Parishad (AAGSP).

Ravish Kumar further said that the top court gave instructions to the Government of India to fulfill the promise in 2013. It was only after this directive that the process of updating NRC was started in Assam in 2015. He said that updating NRC is mandatory, transparent and legal process as per the Supreme Court directive.
