India has expressed deep concern over the news of the demolition of the ancient Buddhist rock in Gilgit-Baltistan region occupied by Pakistan's neighboring country. India says that such a radical act of contempt for ancient civilization and cultural heritage is highly condemnable. The Foreign Ministry has issued a statement asking Pakistan to immediately vacate all the areas under illegal occupation. It also said that Pakistan should stop serious violation of political, economic and cultural rights of the people living there.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Anurag Shrivastava said on this matter, 'It is a matter of grave concern that Buddhist symbols are being destroyed and religious-cultural rights and freedom are being forcibly crushed in the illegally occupied Indian territory of Pakistan.' Anurag Shrivastava said that for the restoration and preservation of this invaluable archaeological heritage, India immediately demands to send its experts there. The destroyed Buddhist rock has been found in the Chilas region of Gilgit-Baltistan. According to the pictures circulating online, slogans and Pakistani flag have been painted on it.

Just a few days Pakistan President Arif Alvi had directed the formation of a caretaker government in Gilgit-Baltistan. Earlier, on 30 April, the Pakistani Supreme Court approved the federal government to amend an administrative order of 2018 to hold general elections in the region. After the Supreme Court gave its approval to hold elections in Gilgit-Baltistan, India had lodged a strong protest against Pakistan's nefarious efforts.
