Indore: In their ongoing investigation into a recent encroachment attempt, the forest department removed pipelines laid by villagers of Ras Kudiya from Choral river to their farms. A case was registered for illegally laying of pipelines in forest area, as eventually villagers spread these lines in forest area, encroach the area and begin farming there. Most villagers are drawing water from the river and using it for irrigation Villagers have political patronage, which makes them fearless in attempting to encroach forest land, as shared by some officials.

In order to control attempts of encroachments in the area once and for all, the department is working on taking a planned action. Initially, all the factors supporting attempts of encroachments are being looked into. SDO (Sub Divisional Officer) AK Shrivastava said, "Now we will take help of district administration and police to remove these attempts of encroachments and ensure that no supportive factors are missed." The villagers are stealing water from the river that passes through the Rasakudiya forest belt in the Choral Range. Even many trees have been cut in the forest, with the possibility of attempts to encroach in near future. The land where trees have been cleared was found to be irrigated and prepared for sowing.

Last week, a team of forest workers led by the forest ranger Mukesh Alawa spotted an attempt to encroach and took action to remove it. The ranger immediately informed Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Dr Kiran Bisen about it. The team is now keeping a close eye on activities in the forest of Ras Kudiya, Baika, Umath, and Rajpura. Following that encroachment attempt, forest officials are coordinating with the local police station, i.e. Simrol police station for controlling the attempts.
