A politician close to former Pakistan PM Imran Khan on Saturday claimed that former army chief Qamar Javed Bajwa wanted to "rehabilitate" members of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in the country after the Afghan Taliban captured Kabul. The remarks of Shireen Mazari, former Human Rights Minister in the Imran government, have come at a time when there has been a huge increase in terrorist activities across the country. The police chief's office was attacked in Karachi last Friday night.

In a program, Shireen Mazari said, ''Bajwa raised the issue of Taliban… that there are people of Pakistani nationality in TTP who want to return to the country… if they accept the constitution and lay down arms then something should be done for some and There should be talks." The PTI leader said that a meeting of party MPs was called regarding this suggestion.

"It was decided in the meeting that a committee will be formed between the elected representatives and the army to make a general consensus before starting the talks as our elected people have many objections," he said. Mazari said PTI had demanded that first a general consensus should be made and then talks with TTP should be started. Subsequently, he lamented that the PTI government was later thrown out and the current government "didn't care about who to talk to." Asked about PTI President Khan's demand for legal action against General Bajwa for alleged violation of the Constitution, Mazari said the party was open to all options.
