Former Assam CM Dr Bhumidhar Barman passed away

Former Assam Chief Minister Dr Bhumidhar Barman passed away Sunday evening. He was admitted in a private hospital in Guwahati but after a prolonged illness he died. He has served the nation as a seven-time MLA and also has remained former Chief Minister of Assam. 

After the demise of legend the government of Assam has declared a three-day state mourning. The 90-year-old Dr Barman held the post of Chief Minister between April 1996 and May 1996 following the death of former CM Hiteshwar Saikia. Later in year 2010, when former CM late Tarun Gogoi was on leave on medical grounds late Dr Barman took the responsibility. Dr Barman was graduate from Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh. He has represented the Lower Assam constituencies of Nalbari West, Dharmapur and Barkhetry. After the news of demise Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter expressing his grief fir such a great personality. He tweeted on his official handle writing “Anguished by the passing away of former Assam CM and senior politician, Shri Bhumidhar Barman. My thoughts are with his family and supporters in this hour of grief.”

With Prime Minister Narendra Modi,  Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowa alsol expressed grief over Barman`s demise.
