Former CM Omprakash Chautala convicted in disproportionate assets case, sentence to be pronounced on May 26

Chandigarh: Former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala has been convicted by Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court in the disproportionate assets case. Now the court will debate Chautala's sentence on May 26 and the sentence of the same day will also be announced. Earlier on May 19, the Rouse Avenue Court had reserved its verdict in the case of having disproportionate assets. Chautala was also present during the hearing in the court on Saturday.
 
The CBI had filed a charge sheet against Chautala on March 26, 2010 in this case. In which he was held responsible for amassing assets worth Rs 6.09 crore disproportionately between 1993 and 2006. In 2019, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had attached properties worth Rs 3 crore 68 lakh of the former CM. These properties are present in New Delhi, Panchkula and Sirsa. This action was taken in connection with a case registered under money laundering in a case of disproportionate assets.

Let us inform that former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala was also convicted in the JBT scam case in 2013. He was sentenced to seven years in the Prevention of Corruption and 10 years in prison if found guilty of conspiracy. He was released from jail after completing his sentence on July 2 last year.
