The condition of former Speaker Somnath Chatterjee remains critical and he is currently on the ventilator. On August 10, Chatterjee was admitted to the hospital after kidney diseases. He is currently undergoing treatment in a Kolkata hospital. Recently his wife also died due to which he was really disturbed.

Earlier, on June 28, his health had deteriorated. He was then admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata. However, he was discharged later. When the condition of Former Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee was not improved, he was again admitted on August 10. The reports have said that his condition remains fragile. At this time a team of doctors is closely monitoring their health. 

The former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee is the son of famous lawyer Nirmal Chandra Chatterjee. Nirmal Chandra was also the founder of All India Hindu Mahasabha. His political career started with Somnath Chatterjee in 1968 and he was associated with this party till 2008. In 1971, he was elected a Member of Parliament for the first time. He was the Speaker of the Lower House during the UPA-I rule from 2004 to 2009. After this, he never looked back in politics. He was elected as a Lok Sabha member 10 times.
