Former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has been admitted to hospital, this has been revealed by a representative of his office.The 96-year-old is getting treatment at the National Heart Institute's cardiac care unit.

Mahathir was hospitalised to the National Heart Institute for a comprehensive medical check-up and observation on December 16-23 last year. On January 7, he was admitted to the same hospital for an elective operation and was discharged on January 13.

Mahathir served two terms as Prime Minister, the first from 1981 to 2003 and the second from 2018 to 2020.
