Former Odisha minister Bhagabat Mohanty passes away

Bhubaneswar: Senior Congress leader and former Odisha minister Bhagwat Prasad Mohanty died late Saturday night at his residence. Family sources have given information in this regard on Sunday. Giving information, he has said that 90-year-old Mohanty has died late Saturday night due to heart attack. Since this incident, Mohanty's entire family is bereaved and is preparing for his funeral.

Bhagwat Prasad Mohanty, a three-time MLA from the Kendrapara Legislative Assembly, has been elected to the state assembly as a candidate for Praja Socialist Party (PSP) in 1971 and as a Congress candidate in 1985 and 1995. In the Congress government, he served as the state's Higher Education and Revenue Minister.

The current CM of Odisha Naveen Patnaik has condoled the death of Mohanty. Patnaik called the late Bhagwat Mohanty a qualified administrator and experienced politician. CM Naveen Patnaik also expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family. A large number of his fans, leaders and people from various fields came to his house to pay his last tribute as soon as the news of Mohanty died.
