South Korea: Yoon Seok-youl, a former prosecutor general in South Korea, has been named the main opposition People Power Party's presidential candidate (PPP). In a four-day poll of party members and the general public this week, Yoon received 47.85 percent of the vote, followed by Rep. Hong Joon-pyo with 41.50 percent. According to reports, former Rep. Yoo Seong-min received 7.47 percent of the vote, while former Jeju Governor Won Hee-ryong received 3.17 percent.

On Friday, the results were announced at the Kim Koo Museum and Library in Seoul during a PPP national convention. The conservative party's primary was held in three stages over the course of 72 days. In his acceptance speech, Yoon stated, "I will achieve a change of government without fail and put an end to the politics of division and anger, corruption and plunder." "I ask you to pass judgement on the unconscionable attempt to win an unprincipled election by electing a candidate who represents division and populism," Yoon continued.

He cast the election on March 9, 2022, as a contest between "rationalists and populists," as well as between a candidate "of common sense" and one who lacks it, referring to the ruling Democratic Party's nominee, Lee Jae-myung.
