Jammu: One year and 10 months after article 370 and the status of the entire state was removed from Jammu and Kashmir, PM Narendra Modi held a three-and-a-half hour marathon meeting with 14 leaders of 8 parties in the state at the PM's residence on Thursday. The meeting is expected to revive the political situation in the state.

After the same meeting, Kashmir leaders including Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah appeared adamant on the restoration of Article 370 along with the return of full statehood. However, the confidence building formula in the Valley could now become Article 371. Mehbooba Mufti also raised the issue of discussions with Pakistan in the meeting. On the other hand, PM Narendra Modi stressed on early completion of the delimitation process in the state to clear the way for elections.

Article-371 applicable in 11 states:-
According to sources, the middle route has also been found in this rope of stalemate. This formula may be to introduce special provisions of Article 371 in some parts of Jammu and Kashmir instead of the return of Article 370. Article 371 is applicable in 11 States of the country including Himachal, Gujarat, Uttarakhand. According to election commission sources, the delimitation work of the state will be completed by August 31. Till then, efforts are on to get the approval on the formula of Article 371.

What is Article-371?
Article 371 is currently applicable in specific areas of 11 states of the country. Under this, all the places have different provisions as per the situation in the State.
Under this law in Himachal, no one can purchase non-Himachali agricultural land.
No non-Mizo tribal can buy land in Mizoram, but the government can acquire land for industries. The local population has special rights in education and jobs.
The law may limit the impact of central laws if there is a contradiction with the practices of the native population.
Provisions may be introduced in certain areas of Jammu and Kashmir which will weaken the demand of regional parties for restoration of Article 370.
