Meghalaya police have detained four people in connection with an IED blast that occurred in Shillong's Police Bazaar area on Sunday.

Conrad Sangma, the chief minister of Meghalaya, announced this on Wednesday. All four people apprehended, according to CM Conrad Sangma, were intimately involved in the bombing. The people detained are Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council "sympathisers" (HNLC).

"The detained people provided raw materials for the IED that exploded in Shillong on Sunday," Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma stated. Conrad Sangma had previously described the bomb attack in Shillong's Police Bazaar area as a "cowardly act." "Any effort to disrupt peace and do violence is a despicable act," remarked CM Conrad Sangma.

An IED went off near a commercial facility called Delhi Misthan Bhandar in Shillong on Sunday evening, causing a bomb blast in the Police Bazaar section of the city.
