Kyiv: Four people were killed by a missile strike on an apartment block in Lviv, western Ukraine, on Thursday. According to the mayor of the city, this was the city's worst attack on civilian infrastructure since Russia's invasion of the nation got underway.

The Lviv region, hundreds of kilometres from the frontlines and close to the Polish border, has largely been spared from the aerial onslaughts while Russia regularly bombards Ukraine with missiles, artillery, and drones.

Igor Klymenko, the interior minister of Ukraine, posted on Telegram that "an apartment block was damaged as a result of the Russian missile attack."
"Two sections of the house's third and fourth floors were destroyed... At 7:00 am, there had been 4 fatalities and 9 injuries.

Rescuers were trying to reach those who were still under the rubble.

Mayor Andriy Sadovyi announced on Telegram that more than 50 apartments had been "ruined" and a dormitory at the Lviv Polytechnic University had suffered damage.

According to him, "this is the biggest attack on Lviv's civilian infrastructure since the beginning" of Russia's invasion.
Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, captioned a Telegram video of a destroyed structure, "Consequences of the night attack by Russian terrorists."

"There will undoubtedly be a reaction against the adversary. a concrete one.
How many missiles had been fired was unknown.
Maksym Kozytski, the regional governor, earlier claimed, citing Ukraine's Air Force Command, that "several" missiles were "moving in the direction of the western regions."

Kozytski also shared a different video that showed a multi-story building with a portion of the top floor demolished.
Rescuers were "sorting through the debris," he said, and emergency services were on the scene.
The rubble is currently being dismantled, he said. "We are taking all necessary steps to... save people."
Unverified Telegram videos that claimed to show the strike's aftermath showed broken glass all over the floor of what looked like a dorm.
If the strike was captured on video in both instances was unclear.
A significant Russian drone attack on Kyiv and other cities was launched on June 20 and hit Lviv.

The number of Russian missiles and drones breaching Ukrainian air defence systems has decreased since Ukraine recently strengthened its air defence systems with Western-supplied weapons.

However, Yuriy Ignat, a spokesman for the Ukrainian air force, recently claimed that the newly delivered systems were still insufficient to cover the entire nation.
According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, slow arms shipments to Ukraine prevented Kiev from launching its anticipated counteroffensive, which allowed Russia to fortify its defences in occupied territory.

"The reasons for our counteroffensive's slow progress on the battlefield are various. In the pre-recorded interview with CNN, he said through a translator that everything was heavily mined there.
