Thiruvananthapuram:  Soon after a young CPI-M worker was murdered by a criminal gang at Peringara in Kerala's Pathanamthitta district, the police have arrested four accused.. A five-member gang attacked 32-year-old P.B. Sandip, who was sitting on a tiny bridge near his residence in Peringara, at 8.30 p.m. on Thursday night, police said.

Sandip was pulled down and slashed with swords and country knives by a gang of bikers. Sandip was subsequently dumped in a nearby neighbourhood. When the townspeople began rushing in response to his cries for help, all five fled the scene. Sandip was rushed to the hospital, but he died there.

The RSS was condemned by the CPI-M state secretariat for shattering the peace in the area by cruel killings, and the local party leadership called for a dawn to dusk shutdown in the area on Friday. Following the identification of two assailants by the community, the police rapidly tracked down and apprehended four suspects.

Meanwhile, after questioning the four accused, police said Jishnu confessed that Sandip was attempting to take away his mother's work at a state-run PSU by using his political clout. According to the authorities, the crime was committed as a form of vengeance.
