Mumbai: Four men on Thursday allegedly robbed S Kumar Gold and Diamonds showroom at Sheetal Nagar in Mira Road. Ornaments worth Rs 2.5 crore were taken away.

According to police, four motorcycle-borne persons entered the jewellery posing as customers and purchased some ornaments and instead of paying cash at the counter, they took out pistols from their bag and pointed them at the staff and ordered them to give more ornaments.

They themselves took some ornaments from the gallery and immediately moved to their bikes. However, one of their two bikes could not start due to some technical snag, forcing them to abandon the vehicle and ran away. No one has been arrested so far.

The lone on-duty private security guard was also called inside the showroom by the quartet. However, the drama did not end there. While a duo zoomed away on a bike, the other pair was left stranded as the other bike apparently failed to start, prompting them to abandon the bike and flee on foot towards the direction of the railway station. The entire sequence of events has been captured by the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the shop and getaway routes. The robbers pulled off the whole theft in the space of just ten minutes.
