JAMMU Tragedy struck on Tuesday as four security personnel lost their lives during a firefight following a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district. The incident occurred during an exchange of gunfire, leaving five security officials critically injured, including an Army jawan, in the Dessa area on Monday.

The operation was initiated through a coordinated cordon and search mission at Dhari Gote Urarbagi in the Desa forest area. This joint effort was launched by troops from the Rashtriya Rifles and the J-K Police's Special Operations Group based on specific intelligence inputs.

A statement released by the White Knight Corps on Monday confirmed the unfolding events: "Based on specific intelligence inputs, a joint operation by Indian Army and JKP was in progress in General area North of Doda." It further stated, "Contact with terrorists was established tonight at about 2100h in which heavy firefight ensued. Initial reports suggest injuries to our bravehearts. Additional troops have been moved into the area. Operations are continuing."

This incident follows closely on the heels of a successful anti-infiltration operation by the Indian Army on Sunday, where three terrorists were neutralized along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Over the past months, the Jammu division of Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a spate of terrorist attacks. These incidents have targeted four locations across Kathua, Doda, Reasi, and Udhampur districts, resulting in the loss of 15 lives, including nine pilgrims and six security personnel. Additionally, 46 people have been injured in these attacks.

The security situation remains tense in the region as authorities continue to bolster efforts to safeguard against further threats and maintain peace.
