Paris - The French government has ordered the closure of a mosque in Elones, near Le Mans, to promote 'radical Islam' and "justify terrorist attacks." Home Minister Gerald Darmenin said the mosque has been closed for six months. At the same time, bank accounts of the administrators of the mosque have also been seized.

The allegations against the mosque include inciting hatred against France, Western countries, Christians and Jews. "The mosque spread hate messages about France," Darmenin wrote on Twitter. The administration said that apart from hatred and favouritism, the mosque also promoted the "establishment of Shariah" in France. The mosque as well as the Islamic school it organized has been closed down saying that the school had carried out the task of promoting 'armed jihad'. A notice was received on the school door on Wednesday (October 27, 2021) stating that classes have been suspended 'till further notice. ’

The French Interior Minister also said that work is on to close 7 more associations or religious buildings by the end of the year. The Minister also briefed about the closure of 13 religious associations since President Emmanuel Macron took over at the Elysi Palace. Darmenin also said that since September 2020, residence permits of 36,000 foreigners have been cancelled due to 'threat to the public'.
