Freedom fighter P Gopinathan Nair passed away at 100

KERALA: Freedom fighter Gandhian  P. Gopinathan Nair passed away at the age of 100. Nair was undergoing treatment for age-related ailments.

P Gopinathan Nair, who received the Padma award, was recognised for his lifelong adherence to Gandhian principles. He had taken part in the fight for freedom.

Taking to Twitter, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote: "Shri P Gopinathan Nair would be remembered for his great contribution to India's freedom struggle and unwavering commitment to Gandhian ideologies. Grieved by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family and admirers. Om Shanti.
His death was also mourned by the chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the governor Arif Muhammad Khan, opposition leaders, and individuals from all walks of life.

In his expression of sympathy, Arif Muhammad Khan wrote: "Sincere condolences are extended in light of the tragic passing of Gandhian Sri P.Gopinathan Nair, who was active in the Quit India movement. With his social and spiritual leadership in promoting peace and peaceful action, he inspired millions."
