In an attempt to fight the country's rising Covid-19 instances, the French National Assembly, or lower house of Parliament, has passed a measure that would change the health pass into a tougher vaccination pass. The bill was passed by the National Assembly on Sunday evening by a vote of 215 in favour and 58 against, following two weeks of debate and discussion, according to the Xinhua news agency.

After the Constitutional Council, the country's top constitutional body, approves the bill, the French government aims to implement it as quickly as feasible.  Negative Covid-19 tests will no longer be valid for access to public places under the new rule. When in doubt, bars, restaurants, and cafés are permitted to check the identity of vaccine pass holders.

People over the age of 16 are concerned about the vaccine pass. A vaccination pass is not required for children aged 12 to 15, but they must provide a health pass. The French Ministry of Health said on Thursday that at least 600,000 people would lose their health pass on January 15 due to a lack of booster shots. On Thursday, France recorded 305,322 new Covid-19 instances in the previous 24 hours.
